About the Company
Our client, a leader in Industrial Automation, Electrical Power Systems, and Lifecycle Services, is seeking an experienced Medium Voltage Commissioning Specialist to support the continued growth of their Power Systems Services Business Unit. This team delivers commissioning, testing, startup, diagnostics, and reliability services for critical electrical infrastructure across industrial, utility, energy, and manufacturing facilities.
Role Overview
The successful candidate will serve as both a technical specialist and mentor, helping develop technical capabilities across the organization while supporting customers through the safe and successful energization of electrical systems. The ideal candidate will bring expertise in medium voltage power systems, protection & controls, and electrical commissioning. Success in this role requires exceptional troubleshooting abilities, strong analytical thinking, and the ability to diagnose complex electrical system issues in the field.
Key Responsibilities
Perform acceptance, maintenance, commissioning, and diagnostic testing of electrical equipment and power systems up to 15kV
Commission, test, troubleshoot, and energize switchgear, circuit breakers, transformers, motor control centers (MCCs), VFDs, automatic transfer switches, and associated electrical equipment
Configure, validate, and troubleshoot protection relays, control circuits, interlocking systems, indication circuits, and monitoring systems
Perform relay testing and commissioning using industry-standard equipment and software, including Omicron, Doble, SEL, Multilin, and Schneider platforms
Interpret single-line diagrams, wiring diagrams, schematics, logic drawings, and relay configuration files to identify and resolve technical issues
Develop commissioning plans, testing procedures, and detailed technical reports in accordance with NETA and industry standards
Support lifecycle service programs including power quality analysis, infrared thermography, vibration analysis, oil analysis, and partial discharge testing
Mentor technical personnel, share best practices, and support continuous improvement initiatives
Qualifications
Diploma or Degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience
Minimum 4 years of commissioning, testing, protection & controls, or field service experience
Experience working with medium voltage distribution systems up to 15kV; higher voltage experience is an asset
Hands-on experience with relay testing equipment, Meggers, ductors, TTRs, VLF test sets, and AC Hipot testing equipment
Working knowledge of SEL, GE Multilin, Schneider, Omicron, Doble, and related power system technologies
NETA certification, Power System Electrician, or Journeyman Electrician designation is considered an asset
Strong customer-facing communication, technical reporting, and problem-solving skills
Valid driver's license and willingness to travel to customer sites and work rotational assignments as required
