About the Company
Our client, a leader in Industrial Automation, Electrical Reliability, and Lifecycle Services, is seeking an experienced Electrical Systems Field Specialist to support the continued growth of their Reliability Services Business Unit. This team delivers commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, predictive maintenance, and electrical reliability solutions for industrial facilities across the energy, utilities, manufacturing, mining, and process industries.
Role Overview
The ideal candidate will bring expertise in industrial power distribution systems, motor control centers (MCCs), Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs), and electrical reliability programs. Success in this role requires strong troubleshooting and diagnostic capabilities, along with the ability to work independently at customer sites while building client relationships.
Key Responsibilities
Lead MCC and VFD startup, commissioning, verification, and troubleshooting activities at customer facilities.
Configure, test, and support intelligent motor control devices including VFDs, soft starters, programmable overloads, power meters, breakers, and related control equipment.
Interpret electrical schematics, control drawings, single-line diagrams, and technical documentation to diagnose and resolve field issues.
Apply expertise in three-phase power systems, transformers, control circuits, motor control systems, and industrial electrical distribution networks.
Utilize diagnostic and testing equipment including multimeters, insulation resistance testers (Meggers), ductors, transformer turns ratio (TTR) test sets, and torque tools.
Develop and execute electrical reliability & condition monitoring programs, including motor circuit analysis, power quality assessments, motor vibration analysis, infrared thermography, and predictive maintenance initiatives.
Support commissioning, startup, troubleshooting, and lifecycle service activities while collaborating with engineering, sales, and customer operations teams.
Promote electrical safety best practices, including LOTO, grounding, arc flash protection, risk assessments, and compliance with applicable CSA (254) and Canadian Electrical Code standards (22.1).
Deliver technical training, prepare detailed service reports, and provide customers with recommendations to improve equipment performance, reliability, and asset life.
Qualifications
Degree or Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, or equivalent industry experience.
Journeyman Electrician certification is considered a strong asset.
Proven industrial electrical experience involving commissioning, startup, troubleshooting and field service support.
Strong working knowledge of MCCs, VFDs, motor control systems, transformers, electrical distribution equipment, and industrial automation technologies.
Experience performing electrical testing, diagnostics, and reliability assessments within industrial environments.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and control documentation.
Strong customer-facing communication skills with the ability to work independently at industrial facilities.
Self-starter with an entrepreneurial mindset and demonstrated problem-solving abilities.
Willingness to travel and deploy to customer sites on short notice throughout Alberta/Western Canada as required.
